Please tell me, are you the voiceover actor for the discover card commercials? If not, it sounds like you. Thanks, can’t find the info anywhere.
Dear Jull
Yes, I have done the voice on some Discover commercials. It has been a lot of fun working with them.
Stephen
Your voice is your passport.
I noticed the same thing, when you said ” Ned the Head ” in one of the more recent Discover voice overs.
GD namedrop, classic.
And you kill on Californication.
Recognize your voice anywhere and your podcast is just perfect. Thanks!
Just saw the Discover commercial. If Tobo voiced all commercials, I might actually watch them.
Ireland / UK / Europe in the cards?
Not yet…
what about the new Amazon commercial?
I am really anxious to know if the new Amazon Kindle Fire HD Commercial is Stephen Tobolowsky as well. I think it’s Stephen, my husband says it’s not. I can’t find the information anywhere and it’s making me crazy!
No, not me on Kindle Fire.
I want to know this one, too! My husband and I keep arguing about it.
Will there be an opening act of any kind or will you be starting promptly at 8 PM for the show in Seattle on Oct. 13th? I have tickets to an event earlier that day and that will help me know if I can make it in time to see your performance. Thanks
Stephen,
It was great seeing you again after all these years. Have followed your post-Oak Cliff career closely. Congratulations on a wonderful, entertaining book. Brought back many memories of the areas and places where I also grew up. Hope to see you again soon.
Thank you James!
Do we bring our own book for signing, or purchase there (Seattle)?! See ya there!
There will be books for sale (via Barnes and Noble I believe), or if you already have one, you can bring that too and I will be happy to sign!
Thanky, thanky! Now the dilemma – print book or audio book?! Ur DAC podcast, and book, reminds me of adventures with salamanders and garter snakes in SE MN…and the snakes escaping in the garage. Although I now know they couldn’t climb rafters, nor would they want to – I never played in that garage again!
Yes, curious about the voice of the Discover Card 5% cash back commercial. Sounds like Jim Parsons to me but apparently it’s you…true?
true
If you do a book reading / signing within 120 miles of Atlanta . . . I will be first in line
Hi Stephen! Just heard your new podcast mini-sode. In it you said you would be coming to San Francisco, but it’s not on the list above (yet?). My boyfriend and I would love to see you as we are huge fans of the podcast. We’re wishing you luck on your press tour!
Any chance of coming to Chicago? My wife would probably buy you an Italian beef.
Been home about an hour after the Seattle show. What a wonderful evening. Thanks, Stephen!! Best of luck to you and all involved as the book tour continues….
Thank you. David and I had a great time. Doing the live shows aren’t easy but the audiences in Seattle are a good reason to continue.
Hello,
I missed your Seattle appearance but this has given me a great excuse to attend the Live Wire show in Portland on 12/15. I am wondering if signed copies of your book will be available at the show? If not I will order one through the web site.
Happy holidays to you and your family!
Dear Cat
I am under the impression copies of the book will be there. If not I will bring a few to sign…
Hi Stephen,
Trying to find more information for this Sunday’s appearance at the Shomrei Torah Synagogue. Can you point me in the right direction? I’d love to come by and hear you speak!!
Dear Sarah
I will be part of a panel on writing, acting, music, Judaism and creativity. The panel is at 5PM followed by music and lighting Hanukkah lights afterwards. Here is the website for events that day. http://www.limmudla.org/172.html
Waiting somewhat patiently for you to come to Chicago.
Hi Stephen, I’m a huge fan of the Tobolowsky Files. Are you going to be at the SIFF showing of Groundhog Day this Saturday in Seattle? Their website says so but I don’t see anything here. Are they really going to show the movie twice or is that a joke? I want to be there for your Q&A but I have a baby who may or may not go to bed for the babysitter, so I can’t stay out too late. Will it be right after (the first showing of) the movie?
I am on my way to Seattle! I think they are showing the movie twice as a joke. David Chen and I will do a Q and A. There will be other goofy goings on. I will also sign my book Dangerous animals Club and take photos with folks who want one. I think there will be festivities before each feature. You can come at the start and leave before the second feature. That is my understanding.
I just listened your story about the bakery and your dad. I shed a few tears. I need to find that broken scale..
. Thanks for sharing about your pops.. Gregory S.
Thank you. The killer is that my last trip home the bank was gone. Who knows where the scale is?
Stephen
Just heard u on Michael Feldman this am. Hysterical as always – well often. We would love to see u at a book event but cannot find a 2013 schedule please tell me we miss our opportunity to do so!
Dear Deb I don’t think you have missed the tour because it keeps expanding. The appearances are here on the web site under “Appearances” i have Dallas, New Jersey, Manhattan, Austin, upcoming. In the spring I will be in Seattle. In the Summer I will be in England. Keep checking.
Hi Steve,
Do you have any details for England yet? I have to book holidays and flights, and the earlier the better!
Thanks!
Stephen,
You have an exceptional podcast and a very touching manner in which you tell your stories. I have been listening since the third or fourth episode, always at work, and it never fails to choke me up at one point or another. When I listen to your podcast, it is always at work, and these moments of tenderness or quick bout of laughter have come to be known as my Tobolowsky time (probably because there are not many times in Kevin Smiths podcast that put you in an emotional choke hold). Which leads up to me asking, when will you ever visit South Florida… well, better yet, when will the Tobolowsky Files be visiting South Florida? Beautiful weather, plenty to do, and I am sure you would sell out whichever venue you book.
Thank you for sharing such detailed and intimate stories of your life. Look forward to your upcoming episodes.
Jason
Please help me … I was absolutely mesmerized by your stories and spiritual teachings (at least to my ear) as they poured out of my radio this afternoon, punctuated by Tracy Chapman singing “All you have is your soul”) I was in tears as you shared the moment that your mom felt “permission” to die and when your wife shared her decision to become Jewish and related it to the desire to become closer to a woman she so admired AND who was her mother-in-law (I hope Ruth became a part of her Hebrew name
… I have now spent over an hour on the internet and am still not certain how to share what I heard today with several people who I know would find deep meaning and spiritual significance in what I heard today – both your spoken words and the musical interludes … can you direct me to the best way to do that? I am a rabbinical student, university chaplain, ritual creatrix, and life-long learner. Thank you for sharing such poignant prose and helping to create another crack through which the light poured through this Shabbat.
Gratitude and Blessings,
Jessica
Dear Jessica
They way I understand it – the station you heard the story on will play it on demand for the next two weeks. You can listen, get friends to listen, record it if you wish. It is playing all over the country on different staions at different times. Each station has two weeks of steaming it. First check on your stations web-site. You can google the name of the story The Alchemist. You listened to the PRI version. I did another version on the internet without the part about my wife. You want the PRI version. Thank you by the way for all your kind thoughts and words.
Stephen
Thanks so much! Will get in touch with WCBE – Columbus, Ohio tomorrow. Looking forward to hearing more of your material. Kol Hakavod-All Honor on this amazing resource.
